Preview: Montenegro vs. Greece - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Monday's International Friendlies clash between Montenegro and Greece, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Greece will be looking to make it back-to-back victories on Monday evening when they take on Montenegro in an international friendly.

The visitors will enter the contest off the back of a 1-0 win over Romania on Friday, while Montenegro suffered a 1-0 defeat to Armenia in their last game on Thursday.

Montenegro's disappointing form continued on Tuesday evening when they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Armenia in an international friendly, with a first-half effort from Vahan Bichakhchyan deciding the contest.

The result made it three losses in their last four matches in all competitions, including a 2-1 defeat to Turkey in their final 2022 World Cup qualification game back in November, which saw them finish fourth in Group G.

The Brave Falcons have never qualified for the finals of a World Cup or a European Championship, so it is not a surprise that they have failed to book their spot at the 2022 World Cup.

Miodrag Radulovic's side will take on Greece in this match before switching their attention to the UEFA Nations League, with their campaign beginning at home to Romania at the start of June.

Montenegro last faced Greece in an international friendly back in March 2016, suffering a 2-1 defeat, with Nikos Karelis's 63rd-minute goal proving to be the winning effort.

Greece, meanwhile, will enter this match off the back of a 1-0 victory over Romania on Friday, with Andreas Bouchalakis netting the only goal in the 39th minute of the contest.

The game marked the start of Gus Poyet's time at the helm, and the 54-year-old will soon turn his attention to the UEFA Nations League, which begins for Greece against Northern Ireland on June 2.

The Sky Blues and Whites finished third in their 2022 World Cup qualification section behind Spain and Sweden, picking up 10 points from their eight matches, suffering just two defeats in the process.

Greece have competed at the finals of three World Cups, qualifying in 1994, 2010 and 2014, but they missed out in 2018 and will also not be present in this year's competition.

The 2004 European champions have only lost one of their last six friendly fixtures, recording four wins in the process, and another victory on Monday would certainly boost confidence in the camp.

Team News

Montenegro captain Stevan Jovetic was not involved in the defeat to Armenia last time out, and it is unclear whether he will feature against Greece.

Head coach Radulovic is unlikely to make many changes to the side that started on Thursday, with Levante midfielder Nikola Vukcevic again set to feature in midfield.

Atletico Madrid's Stefan Savic was also not involved against Armenia but could feature here, while Lazio defender Adam Marusic is expected to be in the starting XI.

As for Greece, the team is expected to have a similar look to the one that took to the field for the first whistle against Romania on Friday.

Celtic's Giorgos Giakoumakis could again feature in the final third of the field, while Liverpool's Kostas Tsimikas will play at left-back for the away side here.

There is a lack of firepower in the Greece squad, with Tasos Bakasetas and Vangelis Pavlidis the joint-leading goalscorers with five, but Petros Mantalos has netted four times from midfield and should retain his spot in the starting XI for this game.

Montenegro possible starting lineup:
Mijatovic; Tomasevic, Radunovic, Vujacic, Marusic; Sipcic, M Vukcevic, N Vukcevic, Durdevic; Jankovic, Osmajic

Greece possible starting lineup:
Vlachodimos; Rota, Mavropanos, Chatzidiakos, Tsimikas; Mantalos, Siopis, Bouchalakis; Limnios, Giakoumakis, Pelkas

We say: Montenegro 1-1 Greece

Greece will fancy their chances of making it back-to-back wins in this match, but Montenegro will be desperate to bounce back from their disappointing result against Armenia, and we can see the two teams playing out a 1-1 draw on Monday night.
