Millwall vs Wrexham - prediction, team news, lineups

Millwall will attempt to claim a third consecutive victory in all competitions when they welcome Wrexham to The Den on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the visitors are still searching for their first win of the Championship season after taking a point from their opening three league games.

Match preview

Millwall have made a promising start to the 2025-26 season, having won four and lost just one of their opening five competitive matches.

The Lions recorded narrow away victories over Norwich City and Newport County in the league and EFL Cup respectively, before they were abruptly stopped in their tracks by a heavy 3-0 home defeat against Middlesbrough.

To Millwall’s credit, they showed great character to bounce straight back with a hard-fought 1-0 victory in Saturday’s meeting with Sheffield United at Bramall Lane, putting them in eighth place after the first three rounds of matches.

Alex Neil’s side backed up that result with another slender victory in Tuesday’s EFL Cup clash against Coventry City, with Massimo Luongo and Kamarl Grant netting in a 2-1 victory to set up a third-round tie against Crystal Palace.

Millwall will now be targeting another successful outing in their first competitive match against Wrexham since playing out a 1-1 draw in April 2001.

The Lions have avoided defeat in each of their last six meetings with Wrexham since they suffered their last head-to-head defeat in March 1998 (W2, D4).

After recording three consecutive promotions, Wrexham have made an underwhelming start to their first second-tier campaign since 1981-82.

The Red Dragons kicked off their league campaign with consecutive defeats against Southampton and West Browmich Albion, before they picked up their first point of the season in Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Sheffield Wednesday.

However, they would have been bitterly disappointed to miss out on all three after Kieffer Moore netted his first-half brace cancelled out by efforts from Barry Bannan and Bailey Cadamarteri.

As a result, Wrexham are languishing in 19th place and are one of seven teams yet to win a Championship match this season.

Phil Parkinson’s side have at least enjoyed success in the EFL Cup, starting with a penalty-shootout win over Hull City, before coming from behind on two occasions to pick up a dramatic 3-2 victory in Tuesday’s second-round clash with Preston North End.

Parkinson will hope that they can build upon that midweek result in Saturday’s league fixture, although he will still want to see his side improve defensively, considering that they have shipped at least two goals in each of their five competitive matches this term.

Team News

Millwall are unable to call upon the services of Lukas Jensen, Danny McNamara and Alfie Doughty due to injury.

Billy Mitchell, Femi Azeez and Macaulay Langstaff will have to be assessed after missing the last two competitive matches.

The Lions can no longer rely on the defensive abilities of Japhet Tanganga, who has completed a permanent move to Sheffield United.

As for the visitors, they are expected to be without Ollie Rathbone, Andy Cannon, Josh Windass, Jay Rodriguez and George Thomason

Summer addition Liberato Cacace is closing in on a return to fitness, but it remains to be seen whether he will be ready for Saturday's fixture.

Callum Doyle is pushing for his first league start for the club after making his debut in the midweek following his move from Manchester City.

Millwall possible starting lineup:

Benda; Leonard, Crama, Cooper; Sturge; De Norre, Luongo; Neghli, Coburn, Cundle; Ivanovic

Wrexham possible starting lineup:

Ward; Cleworth, Coady, Doyle; Longman, Dobson, James, O'Brien, McClean; Broadhead, Moore

We say: Millwall 2-1 Wrexham

Millwall will be full of confidence after winning four of their five competitive matches this season, and we think that they will pick up another victory against a Wrexham side that have lost two of their opening three Championship matches.
