Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is reportedly closing in on a return to Ligue 1 club Marseille this summer.
The 36-year-old Gabon international has been a free agent since his contract with Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Qadsiah was terminated earlier this month.
According to Sky Sports News reporter Dharmesh Sheth, Aubameyang will fly into Marseille on Wednesday ahead of finalising his return to the French giants, who are managed by Roberto De Zerbi.
The former Arsenal, Chelsea, Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund striker is expected to undergo a medical in the south of France on Thursday and is said to have already agreed terms on a two-year contract at the Stade Velodrome.
Aubameyang excelled in front of goal during his one and only season at Marseille in the 2023-24 campaign, scoring 30 goals and providing 11 assists in 51 appearances across all competitions.
Ndoye on verge of completing £38.9m Forest transfer
Over in the Premier League, confirmation of Dan Ndoye’s arrival at Nottingham Forest is believed to be imminent.
The 24-year-old winger was strongly linked with a move to Serie A champions Napoli before Forest allegedly agreed a deal worth €40m (£34.6m) plus €5m (£4.3m) add-ons with Bologna.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Ndoye completed the main part of his medical at Forest on Tuesday and his contract at the City Ground will be valid until June 2030, including a one-year extension option.
The Switzerland international has been identified by Nuno Espirito Santo's side as a replacement for Anthony Elanga, who finalised a £55m transfer to Newcastle United earlier this month.
Ndoye has spent the last two seasons at Bologna and has recorded 11 goals and eight assists in 75 appearances across all competitions, winning the Coppa Italia - the club’s first major trophy in 51 years - last season.
Brownhill releases statement confirming Burnley departure
Elsewhere, midfielder Josh Brownhill has confirmed that he will be departing Burnley following the expiration of his contract at Turf Moor.
The 29-year-old was Burnley’s top scorer with 18 Championship goals last season as Scott Parker's side secured automatic promotion to the Premier League with 100 points.
However, Brownhill rejected a contract extension from Burnley, who allegedly felt that they had tabled a significant offer, as he is keen to pursue a fresh challenge elsewhere.
“After 5 & a half incredible years at this fantastic club, I've come to the unbelievably difficult decision that now is the right time for me to start the next part of my journey in football,” Brownhill said in a statement posed on Instagram.
“Burnley is a place that has allowed me to develop, grow & build friends for the rest of my life - not just on the pitch, but within the fantastic community as well. The memories I've created during my time at the club have been amazing.
“My decision has only ever been about me wanting to challenge myself further & continue to grow as a person & a professional. I feel that a new project at this point in my career simply allows me to do that.
“To all the managers, coaches, staff & teammates I've had the honour of working with - Thank you! I also want to say a big thank you to Scott Parker & Alan Pace who have been supportive of my decision & who I will always have the highest respect for.
“To the fans, I really want you to know that I understand & value what Burnley is to its people & will be forever grateful to you all. From watching the community coming together through Covid & seeing how hard you all work to be able to travel around the country supporting your team.
“To wear the captain's armband for this club was a real honour & something I felt privileged to do every day. From big goals in critical moments, trying to drive high standards every day & displaying the values of the community through my work on the pitch - I hope you can see as fans that I have always given my all for this great club & all it stands for.
“Lastly, it really felt like the perfect way to sign off my time at Burnley, by scoring two goals in my last game at Turf Moor, while captaining & being promoted into The Premier League with 100 points for a second time. If Carlsberg did endings for me, this was it & something I will never, ever forget! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!"
Brownhill, who is understood to have held talks with a number of clubs both in England and abroad, follows Marseille’s CJ Egan Riley and Manchester City-bound James Trafford in leaving Burnley following their promotion campaign.
