United to 'hijack move' for Harry Kane

Manchester United have reportedly emerged as Real Madrid's main competition in the race to sign Tottenham Hotspur forward Harry Kane.

For a number of months, Kane has been linked with a big-money switch to the Bernabeu, but head coach Mauricio Pochettino has maintained that Spurs have no plans to cash in on their star man while he wishes to remain in North London.

Kane also has four-and-a-half years left on his contract and Spurs are allegedly prepared to give the 24-year-old a significant pay-rise, but it appears that will not stop interest in his signature.

According to Don Balon, United plan to launch an offer for Kane either in January or at the end of the season in an attempt to improve their fortunes in front of goal.

Jose Mourinho's team are second in the Premier League table and have reached the last 16 of the Champions League, but United have not scored more than two goals in a game in their last 10 attempts.

In the current market, United would likely have to pay well in excess of £100m in order to tempt Spurs into a sale.
