Souness: 'Man Utd in difficult situation with Rooney'

Former Liverpool manager Graeme Souness believes that Manchester United have put themselves in a "very difficult situation" regarding Wayne Rooney.

The England international has been the subject of a bid this summer from Chelsea and has reportedly become disillusioned with life at Old Trafford after manager David Moyes insinuated that he was behind Robin van Persie in the pecking order.

Souness told Sky Sports News: "Whether it was intentional or unwise words by David Moyes, if I'm Wayne Rooney I'm thinking 'hang on, I'm the star of the show'.

"He sees himself as now second fiddle to Van Persie. He will be a very unhappy young man at that - his ego's been dented.

"Manchester United have put themselves in very difficult situation, but I don't think they can sell him to an English team."

United have signed just one player this summer - defender Guillermo Varela from Penarol.
