Robbie Savage claims that Manchester United need £200m worth of investment in their squad.

Robbie Savage has claimed that Manchester United need £200m worth of investment to save their ailing season.

The champions are currently 11 points behind Premier League leaders Arsenal, and have lost their last three games in all competitions – the first time that has happened in nearly 13 years.

United have also been beaten four times at Old Trafford this term, and Savage thinks that the club's owners need to sanction a huge spending spree for manager David Moyes.

Speaking in his column in The Mirror, Savage said: "If the Glazers want to show the fans the colour of their money, about £200m should cover it.

"To re-establish Manchester United as a force in English football, let alone Europe, the ruling Glazer family will have to commit the sort of money the champions' noisy neighbours Manchester City have spent on improving their squad.

"I'm not just talking £10m here or £15m there on a couple of stop-gap signings in this transfer window, but a wholesale clear-out and a complete refit, because there is now as much dead wood as decent timber in manager David Moyes's squad."

United host Swansea City this evening.
