Report: Rooney fears Old Trafford exit

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney reportedly feels that the club is trying to force him out after leaking details of a meeting with Sir Alex Ferguson.

Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney reportedly fears that he will be forced out of Old Trafford this summer after receiving no reassurance over his future.

The England striker has been linked with a move away from the club, despite United claiming that he is not for sale.

There were also reports of a transfer request from the striker, but according to The Mirror, Rooney simply questioned whether it was time to move on after falling out of favour with manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

After details of his meeting with Ferguson were made public, Rooney apparently felt that the club were trying to force him out.

The two had agreed to meet and discuss his future at the end of the season, but with Ferguson having subsequently announced his retirement, it has been reported that in-coming United manager David Moyes will decide if Rooney has a future at Old Trafford.

According to the report, Rooney has been unhappy with his role in the team, having been played in a number of positions to accommodate new signings such as Robin van Persie and Shinji Kagawa.

His representatives deny having had any contact with other clubs and it is thought that Rooney would prefer to stay at United.
