Michael Owen "getting close" to joining a new club

Former Manchester United striker Michael Owen has revealed that he is "getting close" to finding a new club.

The 32-year-old departed Old Trafford when his contract expired at the end of last season, and he has previously insisted that he is not prepared to drop down into the Championship.

"Getting close to finding a new club. Had a good deal of interest but just need to pick right! Can't wait to get going again," he tweeted.

Owen made just four first-team appearances for United last season.
