Nemanja Matic 'opens door to Manchester United exit'

Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic admits that he is unsure about his future beyond the January transfer window amid reported interest from Atletico Madrid.

Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic has admitted that he is unsure about his future beyond the January transfer window.

The Serbian international is out of contract at the end of the current campaign, meaning that he is now allowed to open talks with foreign clubs regarding a free transfer in the summer.

There has been speculation that Matic could even leave during the January window, with Atletico Madrid among the clubs thought to be interested in his signature.

The 31-year-old, who has made only four league starts this season, has now acknowledged that his position at Old Trafford remains uncertain despite United having the option to extend his deal.

"I don't know what to say. I have a contract for another six months, we'll see in January what's going to happen," Matic told the Telegraf.

"Will I extend the contract or try to find something else? United have some option to extend my contract, but we will see if the plans of the club match my plans. I couldn't say anything more because I don't really know either."

Matic's availability for a move this month may have been affected by United's growing injury concerns, with Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba both facing spells on the sidelines at the start of the year.
