New Manchester United manager David Moyes will reportedly hold talks with Wayne Rooney from next week in a bid to convince him to stay at Old Trafford.

New Manchester United manager David Moyes will reportedly hold discussions with striker Wayne Rooney regarding his future from next weekend.

The Scotsman is officially due to leave Everton and take on his new role as Sir Alex Ferguson's successor on July 1, but reports have claimed that Moyes will take on his first task as United boss when the season finishes on Sunday.

Widespread reports have suggested that Rooney will leave the club this summer after Ferguson confirmed that the England international asked for a transfer away from Old Trafford.

While some reports have suggested that United are willing to let the 27-year-old leave, it is understood that Moyes will try to convince him to remain at the club, with negotiations over new terms expected to be lengthy, according to The Guardian.

Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich have been linked with the striker and so have United's Premier League rivals Chelsea.
