Manchester United 'set for triple raid on Barcelona'

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho reportedly identifies Barcelona trio Samuel Umtiti, Andre Gomes and Marc-Andre ter Stegen as possible transfer targets.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has reportedly identified three Barcelona players as potential transfer targets this summer.

United are again expected to splash the cash when the transfer window opens in an attempt to bridge the gap to local rivals Manchester City, who currently enjoy a 15-point lead at the top of the Premier League table.

Spanish outlet Don Balon reports that Mourinho could look to raid his former Clasico rivals Barcelona for as many as three players, with defender Samuel Umtiti understood to be at the top of his list.

Umtiti could be available for €60m (£53.5m), with defensive reinforcements considered United's priority following a string of unconvincing displays by the likes of Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof this season.

United are also reportedly interested in midfielder Andre Gomes despite the Portuguese making only four La Liga starts for Barcelona this season, while Marc-Andre ter Stegen has been earmarked as a possible replacement for David de Gea should the goalkeeper join Real Madrid.

United remain desperate to keep the Spain number one at Old Trafford, but could launch a €100m (£89.1m) bid for Ter Stegen should they lose their star man.
