Manchester United are reportedly facing a new threat in their efforts to sign Paris Saint-Germain striker Randal Kolo Muani, whom Tottenham Hotspur have rekindled their interest in.
Earlier this week, it was claimed that the Red Devils could make a 'dangerous' move for the France international, whose career is at a crossroads following a relatively successful spell on loan at Juventus.
Kolo Muani scored 10 goals and set up three more in 22 appearances for the Bianconeri in the second half of last season, form that could potentially earn him a permanent move to the Allianz Stadium.
The striker's deal with PSG runs for another three seasons, but he is surplus to requirements at the Parc des Princes, and the European champions are not in a position to turn down appropriate bids for his signature this summer.
While Man United and Juventus initially appeared to be in a two-horse race for the former Eintracht Frankfurt attacker, Foot Mercato claims that Spurs have now thrown their hat into the ring again.
Spurs 'relaunch' Kolo Muani transfer pursuit as 'one-time offer' prepared
The reigning Europa League champions were said to have been interested in a deal for Kolo Muani last summer, but they instead signed Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth for a club-record fee.
However, Tottenham are now said to be preparing an offer of a 'one-time' transfer to PSG, as Thomas Frank is keen to bolster his offensive ranks further after missing out on Nottingham Forest's Morgan Gibbs-White.
The Lilywhites are understood to have triggered a £60m release clause in Gibbs-White's contract, only for Forest to allege an illegal approach by Spurs, and the Tricky Trees ended up tying the Englishman down to a new deal.
Now, Tottenham are apparently trying to take advantage of the slow-moving negotiations involving Kolo Muani and Juventus, who are yet to strike a deal with PSG or even agree personal terms with the 26-year-old himself.
Juve are supposedly pushing for a loan with an obligation to buy, while PSG want a permanent sale in this window, which could lead to Tottenham 'infiltrating' the deal and also pipping Man United to Kolo Muani's signature.
Man United or Tottenham: Which transfer is best for Kolo Muani?
Two attacking spaces could open up in the Tottenham ranks this summer, as Richarlison's future is not set in stone whatsoever, while Son Heung-min is apparently in advanced talks to join a prominent MLS club.
However, Frank would still have Solanke at his disposal, and given Kolo Muani has seldom featured out wide in his career, he would likely face weekly battles with the Englishman for starts in the Premier League.
Assuming both men spur the other on to perform at a higher level, that is hardly a bad thing for Frank, but if Kolo Muani is looking for guaranteed starts, Old Trafford or Turin is the place to be.
Man United's new recruits Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo can both function as a number nine, but Kolo Muani is a more recognisable central striker and would slot in nicely at the tip of Amorim's 3-4-3 shape.
Meanwhile, Dusan Vlahovic's Juventus future is up in the air after he entered the last 12 months of his contract, but the onus is on the Old Lady to stump up the numbers that both PSG and Kolo Muani are satisfied with.
