Man Utd transfer news: Red Devils eyeing 'shock' transfer move for Premier League goalkeeper

Man Utd eye 'shock' transfer move for Newcastle star

Manchester United are reportedly eyeing a 'shock' transfer move for Newcastle United goalkeeper Nick Pope

Andre Onana made a flurry of mistakes last season and rightly came under a lot of criticism from fans and pundits.

Ruben Amorim often used number two Altay Bayindir between the sticks when Onana was struggling, but the Turkish goalie failed to seize his opportunities.

Onana is expected to retain his number one status despite his unconvincing displays, but the Red Devils could sign a new goalkeeper to add competition for the Cameroon goalie.

United were linked with Aston Villa's Emiliano Martinez earlier this summer, but according to The Sun, the Red Devils could turn their attention towards signing Pope instead.

Pope's situation at Newcastle

The Magpies are looking to sign a new goalkeeper this summer; they held a long-term interest in James Trafford and were expected to sign him.

However, Manchester City have exercised a £27m buy-back option to hijack Newcastle's deal for the 22-year-old former Burnley goalkeeper.

As a result, Newcastle have reportedly switched their attention towards signing Southampton goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale

If Ramsdale moves to St James' Park, United will have a better chance of luring Pope away from Tyneside.

Pope would be a fantastic signing for Man Utd

Since joining from Burnley in 2022, Pope has established himself as Newcastle's first-choice keeper.

The England international has excelled under Eddie Howe, but the Magpies could be willing to offload him, considering that he is out of contract next summer.

Pope has made over 220 Premier League appearances for Burnley and Newcastle combined, and he would be a terrific signing for the Red Devils at a measly price.
