Manchester United, Chelsea 'turn down chance to sign Philippe Coutinho'

Manchester United and Chelsea are reportedly among the Premier League clubs to have turned down the chance to sign Philippe Coutinho after being offered him by Barcelona.

Barcelona have reportedly offered six Premier League clubs the chance to sign Philippe Coutinho this summer.

The Catalan giants are desperate to offload the Brazilian playmaker, who has spent the 2019-20 campaign on loan at Bayern Munich, in order to raise funds after losing more than £180m as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Bayern have rejected the chance to make his loan move permanent, while the player himself is understood to favour a return to the Premier League.

Spanish outlet Sport claims that Manchester United, Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester City have all been offered the chance to sign Coutinho.

However, United, Chelsea and Man City have already told Barcelona that they have no interest in the former Liverpool midfielder, while Leicester are unlikely to be able to afford him after missing out on a Champions League spot.

Coutinho's wages are thought to be a major stumbling block in any negotiations, making even another loan deal complicated to agree.

The 28-year-old has scored nine goals and created eight more in 34 appearances for Bayern this season and will stay with the German giants until the end of their Champions League campaign.
