Juventus reject Manchester United's £85m bid for Paul Pogba?

Juventus reportedly reject Manchester United's opening £85m offer for midfielder Paul Pogba as they are holding out for a world record £100m bid.

Juventus have reportedly rebuffed an £85m offer from Manchester United for midfielder Paul Pogba.

The Premier League giants are believed to be confident of landing the 23-year-old's signature, which has been sought by numerous clubs in the last few years.

Widespread reports have claimed that United are willing to break the global transfer record to sign Pogba, who left Old Trafford to join Juve on a free transfer in 2012.

Gareth Bale is currently the most expensive footballer on the planet having signed for Real Madrid three years ago for an £85m figure, but Pogba could soon take his title.

According to Sky Sports News, United tested the water with an opening bid, but Juventus have informed Jose Mourinho's club that only a fee in excess of £100m will be accepted.

The report adds that the Italian giants are aware that Pogba wants to leave Turin, and United appear to be the frontrunners after Real Madrid withdrew because of the hefty asking price.

United's £85m bid was reportedly made during a meeting between the club's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward, Juventus chief executive Giuseppe Marotta and Pogba's agent Mino Raiola.

The midfielder is currently on holiday and is not scheduled to return for pre-season training until August 6.
