Manchester United want to sign Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak next summer, according to a report.

Manchester United are reportedly planning to move for Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak next summer.

David de Gea remains the club's number one stopper, but his contract at Old Trafford is due to expire next June, and there has been speculation surrounding his long-term future at the club.

Man United are allegedly planning to activate a 12-month extension on the 31-year-old's deal, which would take him to the summer of 2024, but there have been question marks over his suitability for Ten Hag's system, with the Dutchman wanting to build from the back.

Dean Henderson is set to return to Old Trafford next summer following a loan spell at Nottingham Forest, but the Englishman could then depart on a permanent basis.

According to Jeunes Footeux, the Red Devils have identified Oblak as the ideal signing next summer, with the Atletico stopper viewed as a replacement for De Gea.

The report claims that Man United would be willing to double the 29-year-old's salary to €18m (£15.6m) per season in a bid to tempt him to the club.

However, Ten Hag's side would likely face competition from Paris Saint-Germain if Atletico signalled that they would be prepared to let the goalkeeper leave.

Oblak's deal at Wanda Metropolitano is due to expire next June, although there have been claims that he has agreed a new deal until the summer of 2025.

The Slovenia international has made five appearances for Diego Simeone's side this term, while he has represented the club on 359 occasions since arriving from Benfica in July 2014.

Over the summer, De Gea said that he was "really comfortable" and "really happy" at Old Trafford and wanted to finish his career in Manchester.

"No, not yet (started talks over a new deal), I didn't talk with anyone yet but of course, I would be really happy to be here for as long as they want because I want to be here for more years," he told the Manchester Evening News.

"Yeah, if it's possible, of course. If they let me stay here I will stay here, for sure! I'm really comfortable, really happy and hopefully, before I leave we can win something."

The Spaniard has spent the last 11 years with the Red Devils, making 494 appearances in all competitions, and he is set to continue as the club's number one for the rest of this season despite Martin Dubravka arriving on loan from Newcastle United in the latter stages of the summer transfer window.

Oblak has missed Atletico's last two matches against Celta Vigo and Bayer Leverkusen through injury, with Ivo Grbic filling in between the sticks.
