Manchester United remain interested in signing free agent Dan-Axel Zagadou following his release from Borussia Dortmund, according to a report.

Manchester United reportedly remain interested in free agent Dan-Axel Zagadou despite agreeing a deal to sign Lisandro Martinez from Ajax.

The Red Devils are currently well-stocked in the middle of their defence, with Victor Lindelof, Raphael Varane, Harry Maguire, Eric Bailly, Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe all options for head coach Erik ten Hag.

Man United also announced on Sunday that they had agreed a deal with Ajax to sign Martinez, with the Argentina international set to move to Old Trafford on a five-year deal.

There will be movement in the middle of the defence before the end of the transfer window, though, with Bailly, Jones and Tuanzebe potentially all departing.

According to Media Foot Marseille, Man United are 'very interested' in bringing in Zagadou, who is available on a free transfer after running down his contract at Borussia Dortmund.

The report claims that Inter Milan are showing a strong interest in the defender, but Man United, who were linked with him earlier this year, are also in the picture for his signature.

Zagadou only made 22 appearances for BVB during the 2021-22 campaign, having missed the opening months of the season as he recovered from knee surgery.

The 23-year-old started his career at Paris Saint-Germain before moving to Dortmund in 2017, and he represented the German club on 91 occasions in all competitions before departing on a free transfer.

Considering his age and experience at the highest level, Zagadou is one of the most attractive free agents on the market, and it is understood that he is prepared to take his time before making a final decision.

Should Bailly, Tuanzebe and Jones all move on this summer, Zagadou could arrive as the club's fifth centre-back with a view to competing for a first-team spot alongside Lindelof, Maguire, Varane and Martinez.

The 20-time English champions have already made three signings during this summer's transfer window, bringing in Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord before confirming deals for Christian Eriksen and Martinez.

Man United continue to pursue Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong, but it is understood that the Netherlands international is still resisting a move to Old Trafford.

Ten Hag's side made it three wins from three pre-season matches against Crystal Palace on Tuesday, recording a 3-1 victory over their Premier League rivals.

The Red Devils will face Aston Villa in their final match on tour on Saturday before returning to Europe for their final two friendlies of the summer against Atletico Madrid and Rayo Vallecano.
