Manchester United and Newcastle United are allegedly interested in signing Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo this summer.

Manchester United and Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo.

Both the Red Devils and the Magpies are in the process of putting together squads which they hope will be capable of qualifying for the Champions League next season.

While United are yet to add to their central defensive options, Feyenoord left-back Tyrell Malacia has moved to Old Trafford and Ajax centre-back Lisandro Martinez could follow over the coming days.

Meanwhile, Newcastle have already wrapped up the signing of Sven Botman, a player who will command a regular spot in the middle of Eddie Howe's backline.

Nevertheless, according to Footmercato, Man United and Newcastle are both contemplating whether to make a move for Todibo.

The 22-year-old has just enjoyed the best season of his career, making a total of 35 starts and one substitute appearance in Ligue 1 with Nice ultimately finishing in fifth position.

Despite the disappointment of missing out on the Champions League, the Frenchman has enjoyed regular action for the first time in his career, starting to live up to the potential that earned him a move to Barcelona in January 2019.

Todibo made just five appearances for the Catalan giants in all competitions, with a further 10 outings coming during a loan spell at Schalke 04.

However, the former Toulouse youngster is now regarded as one of Nice's key men, the report claiming that the player is currently not for sale.

Nice allegedly value Todibo in the region of €20m (£17.1m), more than double the €8.5m that they paid Barcelona for his signature at the start of 2021.

As far as Man United and Newcastle are concerned, they are said to be monitoring the situation, rather than planning a formal proposal over the coming days.

Nevertheless, it is claimed that Sevilla and Napoli have already seen official bids rejected by Nice since the start of the summer window.

Sevilla require defensive additions after the sale of Diego Carlos to Aston Villa and the potential exit of Jules Kounde.

Meanwhile, Napoli are at risk of losing long-serving centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly, the Senegal international now having less than 12 months remaining on his contract.
