Manchester United are reportedly planning a move for Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho.
Louis van Gaal has identified the Portuguese as the ideal man to beef up his midfield ranks, and is lining up a £24m move ahead of the September 1 transfer deadline, according to The Telegraph.
The reports also claims that Van Gaal is keen to offload a host of stars including Tom Cleverley, Shinji Kagawa and Danny Welbeck as he reshapes a squad that finished seventh in the Premier League last season.
United have already signed Ander Herrera, Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo and Angel di Maria so far this summer.
