Napoli reportedly decide to shift their focus elsewhere after a failed bid of £40m for Manchester United attacker Alejandro Garnacho.

Napoli have decided to shift their focus elsewhere after a failed bid for Manchester United attacker Alejandro Garnacho, according to a report.

The Argentine international joined the Red Devils from Atletico Madrid's academy at the age of 16 and made his senior debut less than two years later.

Garnacho was a regular starter under former United boss Erik ten Hag, featuring in 36 Premier League games last season, scoring seven goals and providing four assists.

However, the 20-year-old attacker has had a mixed role under his new manager Ruben Amorim, with questions being raised about whether he fits into the coach's system.

Napoli set to turn attention elsewhere after Garnacho bid rejection

The uncertainty surrounding Garnacho's suitability under Amorim sparked interest both domestically and internationally, with the likes of Napoli and Chelsea rumoured to be keeping an eye on the attacker.

Napoli are believed to view the Argentine as a suitable replacement for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who is on his way to Paris Saint-Germain.

Manager Antonio Conte is eager to find a replacement to fill the void left by the Georgian as soon as possible, and it is understood that the Serie A giants made an opening bid of £40m for Garnacho, but it fell short of United's valuation.

Manchester Evening News now report that Conte has turned his attention elsewhere with Dan Ndoye and Yeremay Hernandez among the players high-up on his transfer wishlist.

Chelsea, meanwhile, may still consider making an offer for the 20-year-old this month, with Christopher Nkunku seemingly nearing an exit from Stamford Bridge.

Garnacho has made 117 appearances for the Red Devils since breaking into the first team from their academy and his current contract at Old Trafford runs until the summer of 2028.

Amorim performs Man Utd transfer U-turn

While Man United may allow the likes of Marcus Rashford and Garnacho to leave this month, the Red Devils are believed to have delayed Toby Collyer's planned departure.

Collyer was heavily linked with a move to the King Power Stadium to join former United interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy on loan before the winter transfer window closes.

However, after a couple of impressive late cameos off the bench against Arsenal and Southampton, The Athletic now claim that the 21-year-old is set for a more prominent role in Amorim's midfield over the remainder of the season.

The report adds that the youngster's increased minutes could have negative implications for United's veteran midfielders such as Casemiro and Christian Eriksen, who have fallen in the pecking order since Amorim's arrival.

Collyer moved to United in March 2022 from Brighton's academy and his contract with the Red Devils runs until June 2027, with the option of an extra year.
