Man United 'eye summer Sokratis move'

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is reportedly intent on bringing Borussia Dortmund centre-back Sokratis Papastathopoulos to the club in this summer's transfer window.

Speculation surrounding the futures of Phil Jones and Chris Smalling has led to suggestions that United will be in the market for a new central defender at the end of the 2017-18 campaign.

Tottenham Hotspur's Toby Alderweireld is among those to have been linked, but according to Kicker, Mourinho is also interested in signing powerful defender Papastathopoulos.

The 29-year-old, who has also been linked with Italian champions Juventus, will see his current Dortmund deal expire at the end of the 2018-19 season.

A 79-time Greece international, Papastathopoulos is fast closing in on 200 appearances for Dortmund following a move from Werder Bremen in 2013.
