Louis van Gaal 'desperate to land Mats Hummels'

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has reportedly told club chiefs that they must sign Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels.

The 25-year-old Germany international was repeatedly linked with a move to Old Trafford during the summer transfer window, but no move came about.

Van Gaal is still desperate to land Hummels, however, and the Dutchman has told United officials to make Dortmund a big-money offer when the transfer window reopens, according to the Daily Star.

Hummels was named as captain of the Bundesliga outfit ahead of the new campaign.
