Man United transfer news: Luke Shaw open to Old Trafford exit amid 'serious' Saudi Pro League interest

Luke Shaw open to Man United exit amid 'serious' Saudi Arabia interest

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw is reportedly prepared to consider an Old Trafford exit amid links with a move to the Saudi Pro League.

Shaw has made 287 competitive appearances since he joined the Red Devils from Southampton in the summer of 2014.

However, Shaw's nine-year stay at Man United has been hampered by injury, including a number of issues during the 2024-25 campaign.

Shaw featured in just 12 matches in all competitions last term, with the majority of those appearances taking place in the closing stages of the season.

Shaw considering Man United future

The 30-year-old is set to feature in Man United's tour of the USA, but there appears to be significant uncertainty surrounding his long-term future with the club.

According to The Sun, Shaw is 'ready to listen' to exit proposals despite having two years remaining on his Man United contract.

Shaw's transfer stance appears to be driven by concerns about how much playing time he will get under Ruben Amorim next season.

Cubs in Saudi Arabia could allegedly present the England international with a viable exit route.

The Saudi Pro League are said to be showing 'serious interest' in the Man United defender, who is set to make a difficult decision over his future.

Is there room for Shaw at Man United?

Given Shaw's injury struggles, Man United boss Ruben Amorim may have fears about making the defender a key part of his plans going forward.

Patrick Dorgu appears to be ahead of Shaw in the battle for the left wing-back position, while Diogo Dalot and Diego Leon are also options to fulfil that role.

As a result, it seems that Shaw's best way into the starting lineup would be to play as one of the three centre-backs.

However, when everyone is fit, Shaw would face competition from Harry Maguire, Matthijs de Ligt, Leny Yoro, Lisandro Martinez and Ayden Heaven.

The former Southampton man still has the ability to be a useful member of the squad, but Amorim will be unable to offer him any guarantees over playing time.
