Lazio president Claudio Lotito says that Manchester United-linked Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is "not for sale" this summer.

Lazio president Claudio Lotito has insisted that Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is "not for sale".

The Serbia international has been in impressive form at club level during the 2021-22 campaign, scoring 10 times and registering 12 assists in 45 appearances in all competitions.

The midfielder only has two years left to run on his current deal, though, and there has been a host of speculation surrounding his future in recent months.

Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain continue to be linked with the 27-year-old, while Manchester United are also thought to be interested in bringing him to Old Trafford.

A recent report claimed that the 20-time English champions were preparing to make a 'first offer' for the Serbian, who has registered 57 goals and 51 assists in 292 appearances for the Italian club since arriving from Genk in August 2015.

Lotito said that Milinkovic-Savic is "not for sale" when asked about a possible sale this summer.

The Lazio president, though, added that "an important proposal from a world-class top club" in the upcoming market would be discussed with the midfielder.

"Milinkovic is not for sale. I turned down €140m (£120m) bid for him [years ago]", tells Rai Sport. "I'd ask Sergej what he wants to do only in case we receive an important proposal from a world-class top club."

Lazio had allegedly been looking for €120m (£100.1m) amid the transfer speculation last summer but have now dropped their asking price to €80m (£67.3m) ahead of the upcoming market.

Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic will both leave Man United on free transfers at the end of June, meaning that the club are expected to enter the transfer market for at least one new central midfielder.

West Ham United's Declan Rice has been strongly linked with the club, but the England international is unlikely to be heading to Old Trafford due to his £150m valuation.

Donny van de Beek is likely to be given a chance to kickstart his Man United career next season upon his return from a loan spell at Everton, while Fred and Scott McTominay are expected to stay at the club, but incoming head coach Erik ten Hag is said to be desperate to improve his midfield options for next term.

A recent report claimed that Ten Hag will have around £100m to spend on new signings this summer, with the club looking to further boast their squad by entering the free transfer market.

Man United, who suffered a 4-0 loss at Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday, are currently battling West Ham United for sixth spot in the Premier League table, which would see them qualify for next season's Europa League.
