Man United transfer news: Italian giants 'in talks' with Red Devils over Rasmus Hojlund deal

Italian giants 'in talks' with Man United over Hojlund move

AC Milan representatives are reportedly currently in England holding talks with Manchester United over the possibility of signing Rasmus Hojlund during this summer's transfer window.

Hojlund has expressed a desire to remain at Old Trafford this summer, but the Denmark international has allegedly now accepted that he will have to leave should the Red Devils bring in Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig.

Man United are believed to have already reached an agreement with Sesko over personal terms, but they are still negotiating with Leipzig over the structure of the transfer fee.

The expectation is that Sesko will complete a switch to Man United, though, with Hojlund therefore set to become surplus to requirements at Old Trafford.

Hojlund has allegedly turned down the chance to make the move to Leipzig this summer, but there is also strong interest from Italy in his services, with AC Milan now believed to have risen to the head of the queue.

Milan 'in talks' with Man United over Hojlund move

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Milan officials are currently in England holding talks with Man United over the structure of a move for Hojlund.

The report claims that Milan want to sign the striker on a season-long loan deal, with an option to purchase him on a permanent basis for €35m (£30.3m) during the summer of 2026.

Milan had allegedly been targeting Juventus forward Dusan Vlahovic, but they have now switched their attention to Hojlund, with a deal potentially being agreed over the weekend.

The Italian giants will be in London on Sunday to face Chelsea in a pre-season friendly, and it is understood that a switch for Hojlund to San Siro could be put in place by the start of next week.

Should Man United keep Hojlund this summer?

There is certainly an argument for Man United keeping Hojlund, as they would still be short in the final third of the field if Sesko arrives, with Joshua Zirkzee the only other senior option up front.

Chido Obi is an outstanding talent but cannot be relied upon at the age of 17, while Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha are more effective in the number 10 spots.

Hojlund is prepared to stay at Old Trafford and fight for his spot, but there is no getting away from the fact that the 22-year-old struggled last season, only scoring four Premier League goals.

The striker needs to be playing regular football in the season before a World Cup, and he could be given the chance to make a move to another of the true greats of world football in Milan.
