Ryan Giggs: 'Danny Welbeck going nowhere'

Manchester United interim boss Ryan Giggs refutes the prospect of Danny Welbeck leaving Old Trafford this summer.

Manchester United interim boss Ryan Giggs has dismissed the possibility that Danny Welbeck will leave Old Trafford this summer.

Speculation has mounted in recent weeks that the England international - who came through the ranks at the Red Devils - could become surplus to requirements under Louis van Gaal, who is expected to be named as David Moyes's successor.

18-year-old James Wilson announced himself to United fans by bagging a debut brace in the 3-1 win over Hull City on Tuesday, and Giggs believes it is important to retain the likes of Welbeck to ensure that the club does not lose its core values.

"We won't be selling him," he told Sky Sports News. "We showed the other night that bringing young players through is an important part of the club's culture and history.

"We wouldn't like to lose someone like Danny because he has done that, he has been here since eight or nine. So we want to keep him."

The 23-year-old, whose contract expires in 2016, has struck 10 times in 35 appearances in all competitions this season.
