Man United transfer news: Alejandro Balde latest as Red Devils make 'firm proposal' for Barcelona star

'Firm proposal' - Man United take steps towards Balde deal

Manchester United have reportedly made a 'firm proposal' for Barcelona defender Alejandro Balde.

The Spain international was left out of the Barcelona squad for Sunday's La Liga clash with Elche amid the speculation surrounding his future with the Catalan giants.

Man United are said to be keen to sign the left-back, and according to COPE, there is a 'firm proposal' on the table from the 20-time English champions.

The report claims that Balde is currently having doubts when it comes to his future at Camp Nou, which could lead to him leaving before the end of the summer transfer window.

“It’s a difficult question because he’s a player of immense quality, and it’s important to know if he’s confident he can compete in his position," Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick told reporters on Saturday.

"That’s what I want to see from all my players. Every day I observe what they do, their level, whether they demonstrate that they’re at the level to play. Ultimately, we have to play as a team; only then will we achieve success. I need everyone to be 100%.”

When asked about Balde's absence against Elche, Flick said: "I haven’t told him he has to leave.

“I have a feeling – and I think it’s best for him – that he should think things through, reflect, get his thoughts in order, and then we’ll talk. And we both agreed on that.”

Man United would 'prefer' initial loan deal for Balde

According to ESPN, Man United would prefer to sign Balde on loan for the 2026-27 campaign, with the option to make the move permanent next summer.

The report claims that Barcelona value the defender between £26m and £34m, which would represent a bargain considering his quality and experience.

Joao Cancelo is considered to be above Balde in the pecking order when it comes to the left-back spot at Barcelona, while Gerard Martin and Xavi Espart can also play in that position.

Balde has scored three goals and registered 21 assists in 168 appearances for Barcelona in all competitions.

Last season, the defender provided three assists in 42 appearances for the Catalan outfit.

Man United want a left-back before the end of the transfer window to provide competition and support for Luke Shaw.
