Manchester United are reportedly "in active talks" over a deal for Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens, while personal terms with the 23-year-old are said to be "almost agreed".
The Red Devils currently have an issue between the sticks, with head coach Ruben Amorim yet to settle on whether Andre Onana or Altay Bayindir will be the number one goalkeeper early in the campaign.
Onana missed pre-season with a hamstring issue, which contributed to Bayindir being selected against Arsenal last weekend, but Amorim stressed before the match that the former was available.
Amorim must now decide whether to name Onana or Bayindir in goal against Fulham on Sunday afternoon.
It is possible that either of the two goalkeepers could leave Old Trafford before the transfer deadline, with the club bidding to bring in a new stopper, and they have been linked with Paris Saint-Germain's Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Man United 'closing in' on deal for Antwerp goalkeeper Lammens
However, Antwerp's Lammens has recently emerged as their number one target between the sticks, and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has said that Man United are 'closing in' on his signature.
"Understand Manchester United are still working on deal to sign Senne Lammens, talks underway. Personal terms are almost agreed and Man United are in active talks for the Belgian goalkeeper. MUFC try to anticipate more clubs from France and Italy, also based on exits," Romano wrote on X.
Lammens came through the youth system at Club Brugge before breaking into the first team in 2020, but he only made four senior appearances for the club ahead of a move to Antwerp.
The goalkeeper has featured on 64 occasions for his current side, keeping 12 clean sheets in the process, and he is regarded as one of the best young stoppers in world football.
Will Lammens be Man United's number one?
At this moment, it is more likely that Bayindir will leave Man United than Onana, even though the former has started the campaign as the club's number one.
Lammens could therefore battle Onana for the gloves during the 2025-26 campaign, and it would not be a surprise if he was initially the back-up goalkeeper to the Cameroonian.
However, the former Belgium Under-21s international has the potential to be Man United's number one for the next decade, and it would surely not be long before he replaces Onana in goal.
