Fabio Coentrao told he can leave Real Madrid?

Real Madrid tell Fabio Coentrao that he can leave this month in order for him to make Portugal's World Cup squad, according to a report.

Fabio Coentrao has reportedly been told that he can leave Real Madrid during this month's transfer window.

The 25-year-old has featured just twice this season and is said to be concerned about his place in Portugal's World Cup squad.

According to The Mirror, Los Blancos boss Carlo Ancelotti is willing to let the former Benfica full-back leave the Bernabeu, while his agent Jorge Mendes is trying to revive a deal with Manchester United.

The Red Devils made a deadline-day bid to land Coentrao on loan in September and may be tempted into business at around £12m.

However, United manager David Moyes is still said to be keen on prising Leighton Baines from his former club Everton, although the England international is likely to cost more.
