Chris Smalling 'has private jet on standby to make Roma move'

Manchester United centre-back Chris Smalling reportedly has a private jet waiting on standby to complete a potential move to Roma today.

The 30-year-old, who has been with United for almost 11 years, spent last season on loan with the Italian outfit and impressed with 30 Serie A appearances and three goals.

Roma have been keen to sign Smalling on a permanent deal this summer, while the player himself is also eager to complete the move, but the clubs have been wrangling over his fee.

United are said to have demanded £18m for the former Fulham man earlier in the window although reports in Italy have suggested that they may accept £12.5m on deadline day.

According to the Daily Mail, Smalling's agent James Featherstone has a plane waiting to fly to Rome to get the deal over the line should United signal that he can leave.

The international window closes at 11pm in England tonight, but the Serie A's deadline for signings comes at the earlier time of 7pm.
