Aston Villa will contemplate a summer move to sign Kalvin Phillips if Leeds United are relegated from the Premier League, according to a report.

Aston Villa are reportedly contemplating a summer move to sign Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

The 26-year-old has become a key player for the Whites over the last few years and his performances are believed to have caught the eye of a number of Premier League clubs, including Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal and West Ham United.

According to The Athletic, Steven Gerrard is an admirer of Phillips and Villa are confident that they could recruit the midfielder for a cut-price deal this summer if Leeds are relegated from the Premier League.

The report adds, however, that Leeds intend to keep hold of Phillips at all costs if they avoid the drop and his valuation would be significantly higher, one which Villa may struggle to afford.

After a run of six successive league defeats, Leeds currently sit 16th in the table, just two points above the relegation zone, with 18th-placed Burnley still to play their two games in hand.

Phillips' current contract with the West Yorkshire outfit is set to expire in June 2024 but his long-term future at Elland Road remains uncertain, as talks over a contract extension are yet to have reach an advanced stage.

The midfielder has featured 15 times across all competitions this season, but he has not played since December due to a hamstring injury.
