Ashley Cole on Manchester United transfer wishlist?

Manchester United are reportedly planning a January swoop for former England international defender Ashley Cole.

The 34-year-old has fallen massively out of favour at current club Roma and is thought to be keen on a return to British shores.

According to The Sun, United boss Louis van Gaal has eyed up Cole as the perfect replacement for injured full-back Luke Shaw, who is expected to miss the remainder of the campaign.

It is claimed that Van Gaal will offer the ex-Arsenal and Chelsea Premier League winner a short-term contract that will run until next summer.

Cole made 16 appearances for Roma last season, but has not featured for the Italian outfit since March.
