Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has detailed the importance of his side's 1-0 victory over Brentford in the Premier League on Wednesday night.

The Red Devils had dropped to fifth position in the table following their 2-0 defeat at Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon.

However, Erik ten Hag's team managed to secure a crucial three points at Old Trafford, with Rashford's first-half goal proving to be the difference between the two sides.

The England international registered in the 27th minute of the contest, finding the back of the net with a half-volley after Marcel Sabitzer had picked out his teammate inside the box.

Rashford said that "every game is important" at this stage of the campaign, with the forward pleased to help Man United return to the top four.

"We are in that period of the season where every game is important and every game counts so we are pleased to win and hopefully we can get back to where we were a few weeks ago," BBC Sport quotes Rashford as saying.

"The important thing is always to win the next game. Everyone is clear that we are not going to play our best every week but there is never a time to drop our standards and we have to keep trying to push each other every week.

"We were a bit more patient out of possession, we waited for the right conditions to press rather than pressing every ball. We were calm and kept communicating to try and stop the supplies to their forward men."

Rashford stressed that "the aim" this season is to finish in the top four, while the team are also chasing silverware in two more cup competitions.

Indeed, Man United are in the semi-finals of the FA Cup and quarter-finals of the Europa League, with the club looking to add to the EFL Cup trophy that they won in February.

"That's the aim, we want to get as many points as we possibly can and we will try and win every game. We just have to keep playing well and give our best, keep recovering well and move on to the next fixture," he added.

Man United will now be looking to make it back-to-back wins in the Premier League when they welcome Everton to Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
