Man United team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Chelsea

Man United injury, suspension list vs. Chelsea

Manchester United will be looking to make it back-to-back wins in the Premier League when they travel to Stamford Bridge on Sunday to face Chelsea.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side reclaimed second spot from Leicester City last weekend courtesy of a 3-1 home success over Newcastle United, but the 20-time English champions are still 10 points off league leaders Manchester City.

The Red Devils will enter Sunday's contest off the back of a goalless draw with Real Sociedad in the second leg of their last-32 Europa League clash, which saw them advance 4-0 on aggregate to the next round.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Man United's injury and suspension news ahead of the match with Chelsea, who are still unbeaten under new head coach Thomas Tuchel.

Juan Mata

Status: Out Type of injury: Unspecified Possible return date: Unknown

United will be unable to call upon Juan Mata until next month with Solskjaer confirming that the Spaniard is set to spend the next couple of weeks on the sidelines with an unspecified issue.

Phil Jones

Status: Out Type of injury: Knee Possible return date: Unknown

Phil Jones has not played for United for over a year due to a long-term knee injury, but the centre-back is in the final stages of his recovery and could potentially be available for selection before the end of the season.

Paul Pogba

Status: Out Type of injury: Thigh Possible return date: Unknown

Paul Pogba was forced off the field in the first half of the clash with Everton on February 6 after picking up a thigh problem. The France international was expected back in early March, but Solskjaer said on Thursday that the midfielder would be out for 'a few more weeks'.

Scott McTominay

Status: Out Type of injury: Knock Possible return date: Unknown

Scott McTominay has missed Man United's last two matches with a knock; Solskjaer suggested on Thursday evening that the Scotland international had a strong chance of returning for the clash with Chelsea, but the midfielder has since been ruled out.

Edinson Cavani

Status: Major doubt Type of injury: Muscle Possible return date: February 28 (vs. Chelsea)

Edinson Cavani has been absent since February 14 with a muscular problem and was again not involved against Real Sociedad. However, the Uruguay international could be available for this game.

Donny van de Beek

Status: Minor doubt Type of injury: Muscle Possible return date: February 28 (vs. Chelsea)

Like Cavani, Van de Beek has missed Man United's last three matches with a muscular problem. The issue is not serious, though, and the Netherlands international should be available for the clash at Stamford Bridge.

Daniel James

Status: Major doubt Type of injury: Muscle Possible return date: February 28 (vs. Chelsea)

Daniel James was substituted just before the hour against Real Sociedad on Thursday after picking up a muscular problem, and Solskjaer revealed after the match that the Welshman is a doubt for the weekend.
