Teenage attacker Alejandro Garnacho scores late as Manchester United record a 2-1 victory over Fulham in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

Teenage attacker Alejandro Garnacho scored a 93rd-minute winner as Manchester United recorded a 2-1 victory over Fulham in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

The two sides looked to be sharing the points at Craven Cottage, with Daniel James cancelling out an effort from Christian Eriksen to leave the teams all square heading towards the final whistle.

However, Garnacho won it for Man United in the final moments when he combined with Eriksen before finding the bottom corner with an excellent finish to net his first Premier League goal.

The result has left Man United in fifth spot in the Premier League table, three points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur, with a game in hand on the North London club, while Fulham sit ninth, boasting 19 points from their first 15 games of the campaign.

There was no Cristiano Ronaldo for Man United, with the 37-year-old again missing out through illness, while Antony, Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Diogo Dalot were also notable absentees for the visitors.

Fulham came close to making the breakthrough in the fifth minute of the contest when a strike from Carlos Vinicius was deflected towards goal, but David de Gea managed to make the save with his feet.

Man United's first opportunity came in the ninth minute when Marcus Rashford set up Anthony Martial inside the Fulham box, but the Frenchman was just crowded out at the vital moment.

The visitors did manage to make the breakthrough in the 14th minute, though, when Eriksen turned home at the far post after Bruno Fernandes had fed one across the box.

Fulham were dangerous down the left, with Willian causing problems, and the Brazilian curled one over the Man United crossbar in the 20th minute, minutes after he had failed to find a teammate from a dangerous area inside the away team's penalty box.

De Gea had to make a smart save to keep out a close-range effort from Harry Wilson in the 26th minute with Fulham looking dangerous, although the offside flag had been raised, so it would not have counted.

Wilson then tested De Gea once again with a powerful strike moments later, before Bernd Leno just about managed to keep out an effort from Martial down the other end of the field.

Martial headed over the Fulham crossbar five minutes before the interval, before Eriksen passed up a huge chance to score his second in first-half stoppage time, firing wide following a brilliant cross from Fernandes, with just one goal separating the two sides at the break.

Leno managed to keep out an effort from Anthony Elanga in the 48th minute before Martial had his effort deflected behind, with the visitors passing up two more big chances to score a second.

Martial was denied by Leno shortly after, before De Gea kept out a close-range effort from Carlos Vinicius in the 52nd minute after the striker had turned inside the box; United's number one then did brilliantly to tip Tim Ream's header over the crossbar in the next set piece.

Fulham were level in the 62nd minute when James, formerly of Man United, tapped a low Tom Cairney into the back of the net from close range.

James headed over the crossbar in the 66th minute, with the home side on the front foot, and there was another scramble inside the Man United box 20 minutes from time, with De Gea forced to make another smart save to keep out Joao Palhinha's overhead kick.

Man United had a shout for a penalty in the 76th minute when substitute Garnacho went down under contact from Bobby Decordova-Reid, but the play continued without any punishment for the hosts.

Palhinha headed over the away side's crossbar 10 minutes from time after a clever free kick, before Scott McTominay somehow nodded over the Fulham goal three minutes later after meeting a cross from Luke Shaw.

There was time for the Red Devils to win it as the death, though, as Garnacho played a one-two with Eriksen before sliding the ball into the far corner of the net to spark jubilant scenes in the away end.

Man United will not be back in action until the week commencing December 19, when they will face Burnley in the EFL Cup, before returning to league action against Nottingham Forest on December 27. Fulham, meanwhile, will return to action away to Crystal Palace on December 26.
