How Manchester United could line up against Aston Villa

Sports Mole looks at how Manchester United could line up in Sunday's Premier League clash with Aston Villa.

Manchester United will be looking to make it three straight home victories when they welcome Aston Villa to Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

The Red Devils have won their last two home fixtures against Partizan and Brighton & Hove Albion, although they will enter this match off the back of a 2-1 loss at Astana in the Europa League on Thursday.

Head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer changed 11 players from the 3-3 draw at Sheffield United last weekend, though, and all of the big guns are expected back for this contest.

The 20-time English champions are currently ninth in the Premier League table, two points off fifth-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers but nine behind fourth-placed Chelsea.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how United could line up against Villa on Sunday.

POSS UTD XI vs. VIL

Out: Paul Pogba (ankle), Eric Bailly (knee), Diogo Dalot (groin), Timothy Fosu-Mensah (knee), Marcos Rojo (muscle)
Doubtful: Scott McTominay (ankle), Nemanja Matic (unspecified)

Paul Pogba is closing in on a return for United, but while the midfielder could be involved against Tottenham Hotspur next week, this game will come too soon for the France international.

Solskjaer is hopeful that Scott McTominay will be available following an ankle problem, though, and the Scotland international should rejoin Fred in the middle of the park if he can prove his fitness.

Eric Bailly, Diogo Dalot, Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Marcos Rojo are all still injured, while Nemanja Matic is unlikely to feature as he battles to overcome an unspecified issue.

The 3-4-3 formation from last weekend, which saw Phil Jones start, is likely to be scrapped for a 4-2-3-1, with Brandon Williams expected to keep his position at left-back having scored his first senior goal against the Blades.

Andreas Pereira, Daniel James and Marcus Rashford are again expected to support Anthony Martial in the final third of the field, with the likes of Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard providing the options from the bench.

Lingard both scored and captained the Red Devils against Astana, but the Englishman has struggled to contribute in the Premier League this season, and Andreas is currently viewed as the number one pick in the position between the midfield two and central striker.
