Ruud van Nistelrooy believes that new Manchester United manager David Moyes will be under pressure to challenge on all fronts having succeeded Sir Alex Ferguson at the club.

Former Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy has warned the club's new manager David Moyes that he must win trophies to be deemed a success.

Moyes faces the task of replacing the most successful manager in British football history after taking over the reins from Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils rarely went a season without picking up silverware during Ferguson's tenure and Van Nistelrooy believes that the fans will be expecting their side to challenge on all fronts regardless of who is in charge.

"Success at Manchester United? It doesn't matter which manager it is you need to compete on all fronts so that will be expected of him and I don't think that will be a surprise [to Moyes]," said Van Nistelrooy.

"I think everyone expects a league title, FA Cup, Champions League trophy and playing some good football. In that sense the pressure is full on but I think he knows what he is getting into.

"I don't know him personally but he looks like a guy who will handle that."

David Moyes will officially take control of United on July 1.
