Van Gaal to consult Giggs on Swansea link

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has said that he will consult Ryan Giggs over reports linking his assistant with the vacant Swansea City position.

Giggs, the former Wales captain, is one of the names said to be in the frame to replace Garry Monk, who was sacked on Wednesday, in charge of the Swans.

Van Gaal was asked about the reports today and said that he would ask Giggs if he was interested in taking the job.

"First I have to speak to Ryan Giggs by himself if it's true," Van Gaal told reporters.

"And [in that case], he's coming to me. I never read papers and I think that it's the truth. I'm sorry. I cannot speak about 'if'."

Brendan Rodgers and David Moyes were the initial market-leaders to succeed Monk, but both have ruled themselves out of the running. Former Sunderland boss Gus Poyet, currently at Greek club AEK Athens, is favourite to get the job.
