Van Gaal questions pre-season preparation

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has admitted that he has had to "adapt" to the club's pre-season tour of the United States.

United will play a minimum of four matches during the trip, which could potentially rise to five if they reach the final of the International Champions Cup, and Van Gaal has questioned whether the fixtures will be beneficial to his players.

The former Netherlands coach told reporters: "We have to prepare for the season and when you have a lot of commercial activities for the players, and you have to travel distances, you have to fly a lot, you have also jet lag, and that is not very positive for a good preparation.

"But the tour was already arranged [when I became manager] so I have to adapt and I shall adapt."

United play their first fixture against Los Angeles Galaxy in the early hours of Thursday morning.
