Louis van Gaal: 'Newcastle United win might have been our best match'

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal suggests that his side produced one of their best performances of the season to edge past Newcastle United in the Premier League.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has suggested that his side produced one of their best matches of the season as they edged to a late win over Newcastle United in the Premier League.

Van Gaal's charges found it difficult in front of goal and had to wait until the dying minutes for Ashley Young to grab the game's only goal, with David de Gea also producing a number of timely saves to keep United in the contest.

"I think we have dominated for 90 minutes, maybe our best match of the season, especially in an away match we deserved the victory," said Van Gaal, according to BBC Sport.

"We didn't reward ourselves in the first half. It was a narrow escape because our rivals have won also so it's a rat race.

"We have created a lot of chances and could have scored much earlier. They also made two big chances and I think David de Gea rescued us at that time."

United currently hold fourth place in the Premier League standings.
