Van Gaal confident of success in first year

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has insisted that he can be successful in his first year at the club despite a warning from Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers.

Rodgers hinted that the Dutchman could struggle to win a trophy in his debut season in England.

However, the 62-year-old is adamant that his past experience with Barcelona and Bayern Munich will stand him in good stead.

"Maybe he [Rodgers] is right because I have not experienced the Premier League," Van Gaal told reporters.

"But I was also in Spain and in my first year I won three trophies, and I also won two trophies in my first season in Germany. So maybe one trophy here and we are all happy."

United play Liverpool in the final of the International Champions Cup later today.
