Van der Sar: 'United have title advantage'

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin Van der Sar believes that his old side are favourites for the Premier League title this season.

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin Van der Sar believes that his former club will beat rivals Manchester City to the Premier League title this season.

The former Fulham stopper, 41, secured four league titles during his time at United, and has insisted that Sir Alex Ferguson's side remain the favourites this time around.

"With the experience that United have and the players that they have to come back from injury then the advantage is with them," Van der Sar told talkSPORT.

"It is a difficult one because City are two points ahead now and I think United have had reasonably strong competitors over the last month.

"They play Liverpool this weekend at home, which is a difficult one, but if they come back through that one then with the quality that United have and the tactics that Ferguson can deploy, hopefully it will be enough to win another title."

Van der Sar made 266 appearances for the club after joining in 2005.
