Manchester United midfielder Antonio Valencia has revealed his delight at being awarded the number seven shirt ahead of next season.

The Ecuadorian has worn the number 25 shirt ever since moving to Old Trafford from Wigan Athletic in 2009. However, Valencia took to Twitter to express his happiness regarding the shirt change.

Valencia tweeted: "I humbly accept the historic #7. Will do my best. Thanks to God, my family, ManUtd and all the fans for believing in me! #weareall7."

The 26-year-old requested the shirt that has previously been worn by the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, David Beckham, Eric Cantona and George Best.

Valencia's number 25 has been given to new signing Nick Powell.
