Spain boss Luis Enrique suggests that Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea does not suit his team's style of play.

Spain boss Luis Enrique has suggested that David de Gea does not suit his team's style of play, having left the Manchester United goalkeeper out of his latest squad.

De Gea was a notable omission when Enrique named his 23-man La Roja squad for the upcoming international fixtures with Albania and Iceland.

Brentford's David Raya - known for his passing ability - was named ahead of the Red Devils stopper, and Enrique has said that the 26-year-old "has the necessary profile" to represent the national team.

"It is part of the tracing we do with the goalkeepers," the Spain boss told reporters. "He is a player who is doing very well. I really want to see it in the context of the selection. He has the necessary profile to play with us."

Brighton & Hove Albion's Robert Sanchez has also been named in the squad, but Spain's undisputed number one goalkeeper ahead of the 2022 World Cup is Athletic Bilbao's Unai Simon.

De Gea, who has been in strong form for Man United during the 2021-22 campaign, has made 45 appearances for Spain since debuting for the national team in 2014.
