Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says that Harry Maguire is in his thinking to become the club's permanent captain.

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that Harry Maguire is in his thinking to become the club's permanent captain.

The Red Devils paid £80m to sign Maguire from Leicester City during the summer transfer window, and the centre-back has been an ever-present for his new team in the early stages of the 2019-20 campaign.

Ashley Young currently wears the armband for the 20-time English champions, but Solskjaer has claimed that he is already considering naming Maguire as the new skipper.

"He does, definitely. It's already been in my head, thinking about him as a future captain. On the pitch he's a leader. He stands on the ball when we need to slow it down, he defends well, he's got this presence in both boxes and off the pitch he is a top professional," Solskjaer told Sky Sports News.

"He's vocal - he voices his opinion at training and in the dressing room - and I'm very pleased with the money we've spent on him. He hasn't asked (to be captain) yet! But it's been in my head that he can wear the armband."

United failed to build on their back-to-back wins over Leicester City and Astana on Sunday afternoon as they suffered a 2-0 defeat at West Ham United in the Premier League.
