Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes doubts whether Zinedine Zidane should be in the running to become the next Red Devils boss.

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has expressed doubt as to whether Zinedine Zidane should be in the running to replace Jose Mourinho as head coach of the Red Devils.

Speculation surrounding the future of Mourinho continues to gather pace, with United now without a win in their last four Premier League matches, which has left them in eighth spot in the Premier League table.

Zidane led Madrid to three straight Champions League titles before leaving the Bernabeu at the end of last season.

The 46-year-old was linked with the United post earlier this term, but Scholes does not feel that the Frenchman should be considered to take over at the English club.

"Is Zidane the right man, though? He went in to Real Madrid, who had a group of ready-made winners already," Scholes told BT Sport.

"This is a totally different job; he would have to rebuild confidence with a squad that isn't quite performing. He went to Real Madrid with so many great players, it was still difficult, but this would be a whole rebuilding job."

Last week, Zidane's son, Enzo Zidane, revealed that the former Real Madrid boss would "soon" be returning to management.
