Wayne Rooney: 'Title not a realistic aim for Manchester United'

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney admits that retaining the Premier League title may be beyond the club this season.

Wayne Rooney has said that aiming for the Premier League title may be "a bit too far" for Manchester United this season.

Following this afternoon's fixtures, the defending champions sit 16 points behind new league leaders Chelsea.

The striker told BBC Sport: "Realistically, top four has got to be our aim.

"Although we always want to win the league title, maybe it's a bit too far. We know it's going to be extremely difficult to win the title."

United host Fulham tomorrow afternoon.
