Wayne Rooney returns to training

Wayne Rooney returned to training with Manchester United this morning as the club attempt to end speculation over the striker's recent disciplinary issue.

It is believed that Sir Alex Ferguson has fined both Rooney and teammates Darron Gibson and Jonny Evans for having an evening out on Boxing Day.

Both were dropped for Saturday's loss to Blackburn Rovers, with Ferguson claiming that Rooney was suffering with a series of "strains".

However, Rooney turned out for a training session earlier today and is expected to be in the United squad to take on Newcastle United on Wednesday evening.
