Wayne Rooney eyeing Sir Bobby Charlton's Manchester United record

Wayne Rooney gives his biggest indication that he is staying at Manchester United by targeting Sir Bobby Charlton's goalscoring record.

Wayne Rooney has said that he hopes to break Sir Bobby Charlton's Manchester United scoring record, thus giving his biggest hint that he plans to sign a new deal at Old Trafford.

Last week it was reported that the England striker had agreed a contract extension worth an estimated £300,000 per week and, Rooney now suggests that he has aims he is seeking to achieve in the long-term with the Red Devils.

He told The Telegraph: "I've said all along I'm focusing on the football and will try to do as well as I can for the team and help the team be successful.

"If I can do that (break Charlton's record) I would be really proud, because it has stood for a long time."

Charlton's record stands at 249 goals for United, while Rooney has scored 208 times since his 2004 move from Everton.

Man United entertain Fulham on Sunday afternoon as they look to make up ground on their rivals in the race for a Champions League qualification spot.
