Rooney backs Ronaldo for Ballon d'Or

Wayne Rooney has backed former Manchester United teammate Cristiano Ronaldo to win the 2014 Ballon d'Or.

The Real Madrid forward is the favourite to win the accolade for the second consecutive year at tonight's ceremony in Zurich.

Meanwhile, Rooney believes that Robin van Persie's header for the Netherlands against Spain at the World Cup should be crowned the winner of the Puskas Award for best goal.

Ronaldo has won the Ballon d'Or twice during his career, with his first triumph coming back in 2008.
